A mixed bag for the Week Ahead w/c 09/05/16

A ‘hat-trick’ of disappointing Price Managers’ Index (PMI) survey results from the Service, Construction, and Manufacturing sectors this week means results will be hotly anticipated. Chris Williamson, Chief Economist at Markit, which compiles the surveys, commented:

“April also saw an increase in the number of companies reporting that uncertainty about the EU referendum caused customers to hold back on purchases, exacerbating already-weak demand linked to global growth jitters and ongoing government spending cuts.”

Service sector updates are being shared by funeral services provider, Dignity (DTY) on Monday followed by food and support services giant Compass Group (CPG) on Wednesday. SIG (SHI), OMG (OMG) and Ricardo (RCDO) post statements on Thursday. Within the Construction sector, Bovis Homes (BVS) and Barratt Development (BDEV) announce trading statements on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively.

Other sectors in the spotlight include

Travel & Leisure: Easyjet (EZJ) shares its second quarter results on Tuesday, with TUI AG (TUI) posting half year results the following day.

Retailers: Trading updates are being announced by Greggs (GRG) on Monday and Supergroup (SGP) on Thursday. The former traded higher this week after Investec initiated a Buy recommendation for the food retailer.

Banks: Challenger Banks OneSavings (OSB) and Aldermore Group (ALD) post updates on Wednesday and Thursday.

Insurers: Hiscox (HSX) on Tuesday and Old Mutual (OML)

Oil & Gas: Premier Oil (PMO) and Cairn Energy (CNE)

Mining: Centamin (CEY) and Vedanta (VED)
